I absolutely love the summer, but one thing that is not-so-fun is the cost that summer brings along with it. Weddings, baby showers, and bridal showers galore, most of my time is taken up by activities where I have to spend a good chunk of change and if you are anything like me, I am sure you are in the same boat. That’s why I wanted to write this article – there are things to do that are fun and free, you just have to get creative and brainstorm a bit before walking out the front door. Here are some of my best tips:
Hiking is one of my favorite activities for so many reasons. It is a great way to get some fresh air, clear your head, and gain some new perspective (literally). Plus, you can always find some sort of hike close by. I guarantee if you search “hikes near me” right now, you will find at least one that is less than 20 minutes away.
Hikes are also great because they allow for a lot of flexibility and are completely individualized. If you are not a very active person, you can opt for a short, easy hike with little climbing required. If you are a more active person, you can choose a longer hike with greater elevation changes. You can make it a quarter day, half day, or full day event. You can even pack a lunch and stop along the trail for a picnic.
Whatever you choose to do, I promise you it will be a fun and free way to get out of the house and change up your routine.
Pro Tip: pack trail mix! The good kind with the M&M’s.
If you have a pool in your backyard, now is the time to have a pool day, especially since it is so hot in Georgia right now. I know this article is all about fun and free ways to stay busy this summer, so if you have the makings for chips and salsa, or maybe guacamole, you could have a fiesta-themed backyard party by the pool. Invite all of your friends to join and maybe ask them to bring over some dishes, as well, to save everyone money, and you’ll have the best day!
But, before you can have your pool day, you need to make sure the pool is clean and ready to go for any potential guests that you might have over. If you are unsure of where to start when it comes to properly cleaning and maintaining a pool, you could check out Triton Pool Service. Triton Pool Service is a small, locally-owned pool cleaning company based out of Gainesville, Georgia. The owner, Andrew, grew up in the Atlanta area and now lives in Braselton with his wife and two young daughters. He started learning about the pool industry while training under another pool company before deciding to get his Certified Pool Operator certification. Once he received that, he decided to start Triton Pool Service and has not looked back since.
Andrew, as well as the rest of the team at Triton Pool Service believe in making pool ownership easy with their regular service options such as pool opening and closings, green pool clean up, pool deep cleans, regular weekly and bi-weekly services, filter repairs, and more. When they perform weekly and bi-weekly services, you will receive a thorough cleaning along with professional chemical balancing and equipment checks at each visit. They also provide all of the necessary chemicals needed so that you never have to store any pool chemicals ever again (woohoo!). Long story short, if you are looking for a pool cleaning company, Andrew with Triton Pool Service is definitely who you should consider calling.
Get To Know Your City
It is easy to spend a good chunk of change exploring your city, I get it. But, there are ways to explore and get to know your city without spending any money at all. For example, you could have a picture scavenger hunt with friends! Grab your cameras, come up with a picture scavenger hunt yourself (totally free), or purchase a scavenger hunt yourself (obviously not free), and get to work. If you are exploring Atlanta, don’t forget to add the tiny doors in your scavenger hunt! Other ideas are specific spots at Piedmont Park, a specific mural or two, the infamous Atlanta skyline view on a bridge, and more.
Have An At-Home Cook-off
A fun way to spend a day at home is by having an at-home cook-off. Grab your husband, wife, roommate, or best friend, and see who can make the best meal with the ingredients you already have in the house. No cheating, though – you are not allowed to buy any ingredients outside of the ones you already have.
Take A Bike Ride
A bike ride may sound a little outdated (I feel like I don’t see many people out riding for fun anymore), but if you already own a bike, it is a great way to get out and explore the city you live in. Some of the fondest memories I have involve finding new trails and locating hidden treasures around my hometown.
If you don’t have a bike, try a scooter!
Grab Some Friends And Play A Pick-Up Game
Summer is the perfect time to gather up some friends for an evening game of ______ (insert your preference here). Zac and I enjoy a friendly soccer match in the evening after the temperature has cooled off. If you are not much of a soccer fan, you can try tennis, volleyball, frisbee, spike ball…etc. The possibilities are truly endless!
My challenge to you is to create your own ways to have free fun this summer and comment them below! Also, if you google free things to do in your own city, I am sure you will find some things you never would have thought of.
